Habonim

AZL flag holder TransparentHabonim was a “Jewish Youth Cultural Movement” founded by Wellesley Aron in 1929 in Great Britain loosely modelled after the boy scouts.  Initially concentrating on Jewish unity it taught not only Jewish history but the Modern Hebrew language, songs, dances, in addition to camping craft and other outdoor activities. Aron even produced a handbook with instructions on how to run groups of teenagers, using elements of Jewish history and symbolism, tests and ceremonies. Over a period of a few years, Habonim spread too many English language countries while nurturing its political (Zionist) aspect. It subsequently has in both Israel and Jewish communities worldwide.
