Max Nordau

AZL flag holder TransparentMax Simon Nordau (AKA Simon Maximilian Südfeld; July 29, 1849 – January 23, 1923), was a Jewish Zionist leader and co-founder of the World Zionist Organization together with Theodor Herzl, and president or vice president of several Zionist congresses. Nordau’s father was Gabriel Südfeld, a Hebrew poet and his family were Orthodox Jews. Nordau attended a Jewish elementary school. Nordau played a significant role in the World Zionist Organisation and is credited with manipulating the word ‘democratic’ to suit the character of the organisation.
