Portland Spy Ring
Operated in England until 1961 by the Jews Morris and ‘Lona’ Cohen (also known as Peter and Helen Kroger), the Portland Spy Ring were smuggling documents to the Bolsheviks under the guise of Cohen’s front antiquarian books. Prior to Portland Lona Cohen had been courier to Julius and Ethel Rosenberg but the Cohen’s were quickly spirited to Mexico then to Moscow following the arrest of the Rosenberg’s later resurfacing in the United Kingdom using the names Peter and Helen Kroger. Lona was also part of a ring of atomic spies linked to the Manhattan Project that was far more damaging than the well-known Rosenberg ring. Other members of the Portland spy ring included Harry Houghton, Ethel Gee and Gordon Arnold Lonsdale; a front for Konon Trofimovich Molody, recruited by the Jew Genrikh Yagoda as a long-term Bolshevik sleeper agent.
