Morton Sobell (April 11, 1917 – December 26, 2018) was a Jewish engineer who was part of the Rosenberg Spy Ring convicted of spying for the Bolshevik Soviet Union during WWII. Sobell was born in New York City to Jewish itinerant parents Louis and Rose Sobel, who, in 1906 came from the small village of Belozerka, in the Russian Empire (today in Ukraine). Sobell worked on military and government contracts with General Electronics and Reeves Electronics in WWII and the later 1940s and was recruited by the Bolsheviks in the summer of 1944. Before the family could make it to Moscow however, the FBI arrested him for conspiring with Julius Rosenberg to violate espionage laws. Sobell was tried and convicted of espionage in 1951 and sentenced to 30 years in prison He was released in 1969 after only 17 years and 9 months.
